Finally found time for a couple of new ones. Haven't seen GDT's new Frankenstein yet, tho I'm psyched and looking forward to it. Meanwhile, staying with the Frankenstein theme, here's creator and creature from Hammer's 1958 version, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.

Following up on yesterday's Frankenstein Creature & the Bride, Here are their creators - Colin Clive and Ernest Thesiger.

Haven't had time to do any art challenges this month, so I'll post a few pieces from previous Octobers.

Here's Karloff as the Creature and Lanchester as the Bride:

Karloff and Loy do their best with what they've got. The sets and costumes are fantastic, the cinematography is good, but it's a hard film to watch, being both horribly "Yellow Peril" racist, as well as having a badly written, virtually incoherent script. 4/4
October 23, 2025 at 6:34 AM
There was no script - they'd get their pages for the day's shoot while they were in the makeup chair in the AM. Pages were often by different writers, who apparently didn't consult with each other. The plot veers around like a drunken marmoset, major elements are dropped or abruptly change. 3/4

Apparently Loy hated playing the daughter of Fu Manchu. Off set she and Karloff would hang out together and bitch about how awful the movie was. I don't know how she felt about the yellowface, but besides being a racist mess, The Mask of Fu Manchu is a narrative mess as well. 2/4

The promotional "Dracula fangs" given out to kids were a joke - looked nothing like the illustration, made of shirt cardboard, they turned to mush in your mouth in minutes. Also baffling why they ONLY gave the fangs to boys and the "zombie eyes" to girls. 3/

If you see this, post a monster.

Be careful what you wish for - Dr. Hobbes went looking for Jormungandr, and unfortunately for him, he found it.

Missed posting this yesterday because I had to be offline...

Here's a twofer: 26 May is both the anniversary of the release of Bram Stoker's Dracula in 1897, and also the birthday of one of my favorite actors, the always brilliant Peter Cushing (1913-1994).

Got it, thx. Have you seen Penny Dreadful? Wondering about the tribal marks on Danny Sapani as Sembene. I don't recall any mention of where he's from. Is this a traditional pattern, or just some art director's idea? Or are there so many trad variations that it's hard to tell?

I don't often get to do interior illustrations for a book - usually it's just the cover - but I did get to do spot illos for the chapter headings in David Doersch's epic fantasy "Chronicles of the Raven" series.

A while back, I got to create the cover for Richard Levesque's steampunk adventure CALIFIA'S GOLD. Happy to announce I'm now at work on the cover for the sequel, CALIFIA'S EARTH.

Long ago came to the Reframe for the political commentary, stayed for the LOST articles. (Okay, actually stayed for both). Thought you might enjoy seeing this parody ad I created back when the show first aired.

#BOTD, 8 Feb 1828, Jules Verne. Verne is one of the OG SF writers, and the second most-translated author in the world (after Agatha Christie).
