You're entirely correct. It's the best of both worlds! But it's more like gravy, not bread and butter. At least for most of us. Excuse the saturated fat analogy.

For sure! Commercial art isn't corrupting by nature, only by circumstance. I make my living as a commercial artist. But I never consider my commercial work beautiful. Only effective or not.

We consume beauty when we witness it and process it, like a nutrient delivery system. Very fine edge between beauty and desire. The real question is how can we, as artists, make a living when the simple act of selling art makes it commercial?
