I'm no defender of The Church, but I imagine the absence of Carnival was primarily down to the Priests and secondarily the lousy weather 😁

I may have had North and South mixed up in this instance, but I recall that the religious background seemed to loosely correlate with how like/unlike Irish people they were. I'm pretty sure whichever crowd was mainly-Catholic liked their drinking and such, like the Irish. Again, stereotypes/hearsay.

For me, Battenberg is one of those relics from a time where things were a lot tougher, there was far less choice, and ("sorry, not sorry" to Battenberg lovers) the taste was less sophisticated. IMO they're absolutely RANK! And I've got a sweet tooth for the most part!

IMO, while it's nice to have stand-out slang, "rubber dollies" is just a biteen too nonsensical / impractical for me to use. 😁
But I do like a lot of the Cork slang, even if I only use half of it myself.
