Take a look at these little wheelchairs and wheelchair “school buses”. These are in the foyer at the main NIH hospital where desperate parents bring their children in hopes an experimental drug or surgery will cure them. These chairs will sit empty if there are no researchers in NIH labs.

I started talking about our life under competitive authoritarianism c.2017. Lots of folks on the Hellsite told me I was hysterically exaggerating. I’m appalled we’re here. But I’m glad to see the founding experts on competitive authoritarianism clearly explaining exactly where we are in 🇺🇸 in 2025.

NIH supports essential research AND jobs AND student and faculty and staff efforts AND their families + networks AND contributes to the local/regional/national economy more than 2 $ for every dollar spent. It is critical AND it is SO beneficial.
This is what local news orgs should be doing now:
