I also think that's why Dissidia caught on like it did. Those core stories still existed but now they had to stand beside each other without putting each other down to stand on top.

Twilight Town still stands in my memories as this fantastic start and it had no Disney characters in the way fighting to tell us about Meredith or Elsa. It just got to exist.

But even as back as KH1 the FF characters have never had that problem.

Tidus, Wakka, and Selphie all grew up on the same island that Sora and crew did. Squall changed his name because of how he felt he failed his home. Zack ended up in Olympus somehow.

It was just so fun.

I don't wanna start another "KH3 bad" discussion but I really think that's the core to alot people's issue with 3's lack of FF characters.

For the most part Disney side of KH adheres to their core stories. And half of the few times when they don't they retell their stories but with the trio there

It feels crazy to go from playing JRPGs in the 00s and being scared to progress for fear of missing stuff, to playing WRPGs in the early 10s and getting by fine, to playing RPGs in general in the 20s and being scared again...
