Isn’t it surprising that the smallest Pythagorean triple is (3,4,5), three consecutive numbers. Who wants to prove that if (a,b,c) is the Pythagorean triple with smallest possible c, then (a,b,c) are necessarily consecutive. Amazingly Euclid had a proof of this (without exhaustive listing).
