Sometimes I get it, and the casting pool of young adults here is pretty slim. But it’s still pretty disheartening.

Most shows will choose the older, more cis-passing guy, even for roles that are written for young adults. I’ve done countless auditions for directors advertising age/gender blind casting and get beaten out by the same collection of middle aged cis men every time.
