I haven’t been yet, but the fancy new place in the Mary Chung space (Darling) has put it on their menu

Heck, it took a 14 season hit reality show to make *Trump* into that.

Same! My partner and I play *completely* different games but we are always happy to see the other playing something.

Can't make a personal endorsement, but came across these chairs designed for sleep recently: zecliner.com

Perhaps a more direct comparison, the flu pandemic of 1918 directly preceded a period of pretty intense racism and anti-immigrant biases

Shouldn’t have been a surprise though; they threw trans creators under the bus in 2023 when MAGA lied about their Pride merch.

Oof. Unintentional!

Worth remembering too that Ted was the driving force behind a lot of health care legislation (COBRA, the ADA, S-CHIP) and pushed for universal healthcare for decades.

Unfortunately being dragged out the door has ceased to be newsworthy at this point

I would say "name recognition," which is key if you're asking people to hand over their credit cards — but certainly Medium has that too?

Also don't understand why folks who insist on being on Substack wouldn't at least post simultaneously on one of the lesser known ones.

Serial number also looks like it starts with SG which is Singapore’s country code

As much as I’d like to see this, I don’t see how Democrats get 67 votes in the Senate before Roberts dies of old age

Or (3) they know it will take decades to rebuild what they’re destroying in months. And no one has had that long in power in the US in recent memory.

The corollary to this is that whoever defines the language for a given issue ends up having huge influence over public opinion. E.g., "estate tax" vs "death tax." For immigration, if you poll the same policy but call it either "amnesty" or "pathway to citizenship" you'd get hugely different results

That was my first thought as a home cook, too — but realistically people probably consume more potatoes as fries and chips than in any homemade form

In post-EPA America, all metals will be replaced with lead

This is the free/public feed, not the paid one (the subscriber feed has a different name and no teasers)

I have no shortage of criticism for Schumer but having spent time with my elderly parents this week, I realize this change will keep that inane name from being repeated by a lot of news anchors

They can’t keep pictures of US citizens taken at the border, but aren’t those being compared to passport photos already permanently filed?
June 26, 2025 at 8:04 PM
This is of course horrible, but I do wonder if it’s quietly generating data on how many citizens they’re illegally detaining that could be accessed somehow via FOIA

Ironically it looks like her final court appeal was denied almost exclusively on the basis of Chevron deference 🤦🏻‍♂️

IMHO I think much of the problem is just a lack of common understanding of terminology. There are IME a large number of ppl who use liberal/conservative interchangeably with left/right, and who would consider progressives a subset of “liberal.”
June 25, 2025 at 9:16 PM
True enough, but it's not insignificant that Cuomo himself would have been the target of this sentiment 100 years ago.
June 25, 2025 at 5:52 PM
You can hammer a nail with the handle of a screwdriver. Does that make the screwdriver useful for hammering nails when there’s already a hammer in the same toolbox?

What you are describing is “usable,” not “useful.”

In that example, though — what value does AI add? As you point out, there are existing websites that do this, at a much lower cost, and more reliably as they provide recipes that someone has presumably actually tested.
