Agree - this is 100% the case with climate considerations. Thinking banks/fin services can lead the charge despite competing interests is not realistic.

I guess I just think that sure there is a macro/structural explanation (outside the black box to (ab)use Dan’s terms!) but we don’t want to lose the ability to hold people accountable for having opinions that we think are grossly unjustified? Some people might just be racist.

I don’t think I entirely agree with this. I’m pretty sure you don’t intend this so maybe I’ve misinterpreted but doesn’t this just let (some) people off the hook for believing certain things (eg lazy stereotypes) without justification and/or it gives them no agency in any decision to do so?
