Come down to where I live in downtown LA and see how many businesses are boarded up. If the looting wan't widespread, why did the Democratic mayor of the city imposes a nightly curfew that lasted a few days? Well over 2 dozen businesses in DTLA were looted, and many more vandalized.

Bad faith answer. Photos and videos of this event were in just about every newspaper and tv report. “ I wasn’t at the capital on 1/6 how do I know these events really happened” vibes.

I don't know what an "LE response" is. These violent acts were at the very beginning of the LA protests and lasted for days. This is why the mayor of LA called for many nights of a curfew, because of genuine violent lawlessness throughout my neighborhood that went on in the evenings.

The initial protests in downtown LA where I live were not peaceful. Are you telling the car fires, looting, and vandalism in my neighborhood were ignited by law enforcement?

There was also wide scale looting and vandalism. Didn't say these incidents justified calling the national guard.

I live in downtown LA, 3 blocks from city hall. The first 2 days of protest were indeed violent. We saw fires for two days from our window. At night the "protesters" looted dozens of stores and business. Come look for yourself many businesses are still boarded up. The curfew was for a reason.

I'm a Black/Mexican US/Mexican citizen who has lived in LA my entire life. I've had no problems with the police force here, just the opposite. You're not speaking for me or my experience.

I'm Mexican and I know Mexicans would be pissed as hell if Americans were marching through the streets of a Mexican city Mexico supporting illegal Americans in Mexico sporting an American flag.

There are a variety of reasons why people can be poor, but poverty is a disadvantage to all who are poor, no matter the numbers, or the reasons. How & why would you treat a poor White, Asian, Black, Latino, Indigenous person; equal in poverty, differently when it comes to college admissions?

Helping people who live in poverty is going to help certain groups more than others, but all groups, no matter their relative numbers, are disadvantaged by poverty. Do we not help certain groups in poverty because there are fewer of them?

I'm against the aspects of DEI that engage in racial discrimination, racial preferences, or lower standards & qualifications based on race.

I actually am better, because unlike you, I'm not a racist who wants to disadvantage or promote people based on their race. I'm a gay black Harris supporting Democrat who has never voted Republican, so your assumptions about me may be quite a bit off base. You're addressing someone who is not me.

So, in favor of purposely hurting people that are disadvantaged & help those with no disadvantage, based on their ancestry & not their own actions or anything these students are responsible for. Thank you for being honest and upfront in your approval of racist preferences & racial discrimination!

Nothing here about race. Wealthy and middle class POC are advantaged &obviously they should not be privileged in college admissions. All students in poverty, no matter their color are disadvantaged, so preferences should be given to meritorious students of poverty no matter what their color.

I read the piece and saw this argument as mostly irrelevant. What does wealth and poverty have to do with academics, education, and merit? Still haven't answered my question.
