You are correct, but how exactly would 14A Section 3 even be enforced? Who would enforce it and by what means? And when it gets challenged through the judiciary and SCOTUS ultimately does what we all know they will do and rules in Trump's favor... then what?

Yes, Donald Trump absolutely should be impeached, convicted, and removed, but only one of those things is realistically possible - impeachment. Regardless of how well we do in the Senate races, we are not flipping 20 GOP senate seats, the number we would need to get to 67 votes to convict/remove.

It's real, it's depressing, and it's infuriating... but it's from October 2021. To be clear, we're unfortunately not really much different today, but this isn't a super recent story.

The 32 year old was the woman who was shot. They haven't yet released any identifying information about the shooter.

In any event, Reid was right to remove the rule in 2013, and the only criticism I have of that is that he didn't eliminate it entirely at the time. Since 2017, the only thing the filibuster still applies to is legislation that cannot be passed via reconciliation (which is most legislation).
October 31, 2025 at 5:15 AM
That rule was actually eliminated in 2013 by Democrats. Specifically, they removed the filibuster for all circuit/district court judges and cabinet nominees (because McConnell was blocking all of Obama's judicial appointments). In 2017, Republicans expanded it to eliminate it for SCOTUS nominees.

I like the enthusiasm, but there are cameras everywhere on college campuses these days, and there would definitely be cameras at a memorial plaza for this MAGA wanker.

I think it's likely that Colbert's show wouldn't have been renewed at the end of his current contract because late night talk shows are all losing money... but the decision to announce the end of his show a week before the Paramount Global deal closed was absolutely about placating Trump.

"Would take less than 10 people in congress or 2 SC justices to stop all this."

I assume you mean 10 Republicans in congress or 2 Republican-appointed SC justices?
September 18, 2025 at 4:49 AM
I'm a bit confused about that... I was under the impression from various reports that his wife was in attendance at the event in Utah. I assume someone immediately drove her from the event to the hospital where he was taken.

Also with pointing out that there's a huge difference between ostensibly left-leaning anonymous randos spouting off and prominent rightwing public figures spouting off.

I always felt a little out of place, like one of the few people in the audience who didn't just love DMB's music, but also shared his politics.

My question is... is that still the case? I was a huge DMB fan back in the day, but the last show I went to was in 2008. (2/2)
September 1, 2025 at 8:06 PM
One thing that always struck me as bizarre was the disconnect between the politics of most of the fanbase at DMB shows and the politics of Dave himself. It felt like 90% of the audience at their shows were fratboy Dubya supporters, despite Dave being very vocal in supporting Democrats. (1/2)

We didn't lose in 2024 because turnout was insufficient, we lost because Gen Z men and Latino voters all shifted heavily towards Trump from four years earlier. That's the thing we need to figure out how to address to swing things back our way.
August 15, 2025 at 4:59 AM
I like the sentiment, but... turnout in the 2024 election was the second highest for any presidential election in the last 100+ years - 64%. The only election with higher turnout in that span was 2020, which is why '24 felt smaller. But it was a huge turnout election, just less than 4 years earlier.

Kamala Harris received more votes in the state of Texas than she did in any other state in the country not named California. Yes, she got more votes in Texas than she got in New York.

A person cannot be legal or illegal, but their immigration status can be documented (which means they're here legally) or undocumented (which means they're here illegally). But there is no grammatically correct way to say "an illegal" because the word "Illegal" is an adjective, not a noun.
July 4, 2025 at 3:27 AM
It MIGHT have decades long repercussions, but that largely depends on whether or not the Democrats can retake the trifecta and what they do with it if/when that happens. There's no such thing as a permanent tax cut - legislation can be passed down the road to raise taxes at the top.
