Can you feel the new day rising, climbing up the East horizon?
Because of this, I don't check the 'game received for free' anymore even if it was. It just undermines the validity of a review.

There is Argonuts movie with critters being second argonauts, it even has Poseidon and other Greek pantheon gods 'functional' for the story meaning they directly affect it.

Jon, perhaps Pendragon would be a goog candidate for Epic store giveaway? This will give a lot of publicity to it and to other inkle games as a result. I guess Epic doesn't pay as much as before for giving away a game, but the main goal in this case is publicity and the upfront payment is a bonus.

This means you're just the right man for the job of interactive literature that requires both the math talent (which you have since you were a teacher) and writing talent (for which your works vouch themselves).Without the first you couldnt have designed the intricate knowledge systems and dialogue.

It's an interesting situation for sure and not too common I think. Like you know, a true Renaissance artisan who were proficient in most studies of the era, specialization came later. They could switch from poetry to calculus to natural philosophy within a day and to medicine next day. 1/2

You were a teacher?! That't really interesting, literature? English? Something else?
Can I ask why you left this profession?

Can't wait!

Congratulations, but I would continue the annual scans just in case, perhaps I have health anxiety as well. You can save money on less critical things, don't you :)

-60F is -51C, that's why I asked, this is colder than in Siberia
January 23, 2026 at 5:43 PM
Cconsidering the Jon's hint, perhaps Pinkin Kendrick and Cecil Erstwhistle?
January 23, 2026 at 3:58 PM
-51 C? That's crazy if true, because it's significantly warmer in Yakutia and Siberia right now.

I think you have found a formula for a successful indie release these days
-the price that encourages impulse buy instead of wishlisting to oblivion
- intriguing premise
- clean graphics, not a mess of artsy pixel art people don't really want
- the hardest factor of all - your hard earned reputation

Tried in TR-49 or HV?
Interestingly, in HV I've pressed a convo button every time it showed up because it gave interesting insight and info. Here at some point I stopped because the banter looked like only reassuring and at some point I was afraid SPOILER

This is a moot point for me, tbh, how much the localization should alter the original. I mean, in Roottrees I'm reading an article about Edward Roottree in an American newspaper, not about Эдуард Корневой in Russian one or 爱德华树根 in Chinese. Making an English newspaper a Chinese one is over the top
January 22, 2026 at 4:26 PM
Sounds absolutely fantastic! I envy your automation skills.
January 22, 2026 at 4:11 PM
Yes, the Roottrees. Of course I understand why you didn't go for real models and photographers, that would be a real waste of money. I'm just saying that the initial version has AI photos that are perfectly fine for this purpose but people prejudice meant you had to change them, which is a pity.
January 22, 2026 at 2:38 PM
An unrelated to the price point opinion - I like the itch.io version more because it has photos! In a database thriller they look way more fitting than artistic illustrations. It's understandable that you had to chose the art because of the anti-AI craze, but I feel the free version looks superior.

If someone claims to know at what pricepoint to launch a game, don't believe them because nobody knows what would work. People just try and hope for the best. Perhaps Inkle will start a trend and all indies will start doing the same :)
And you actually can rise the price from a lower priced preorder
January 22, 2026 at 12:43 PM
Me too. That's why an iPad is more appealing for such games - you can play them like you read a book, be it in your own comfy universe and not at a big screen.

Math is a harsh mistress, govt isn't a kind one either and Valve is the harshest of them all:
10% off 6.99 is 6.29 which gives you 3.8
40% off 6.99 is 4.19 which gives you just 2.5

More than 1.5 times difference, picture 1 million pounds vs 1.5 million (let's hope you'll be at this scale soon!)
January 22, 2026 at 12:24 PM
It's very underpriced for sure, but who knows, maybe it works out great. The biggest issue that you cant really discount it and a huge part of Steam folk tends to buy stuff only when they see at least 50% off like it's a Pavlov's dog reflex. Hopefully the book readering audience is smarter than this

Congratulations! Another unique story is born.

Congratulations Joseph, I wish your new unique game the popularity it deserves!
