I wouldn’t call you back—not to a body that would be unable to walk the mountains freely. Even though I miss you— even though the hole you left in me is vast—please— trust me.

This has been a year of suffering in the world: hate. war, death, hunger—and for me, personally—with the sudden death of my husband. This book came fast, took me over, possessed me. I can’t wait to share it with you.

Thank you, Melody Stanford Martin for this beautiful cover. What a gift.

This heroic crown of sonnets emerged before Yom Kippur, when my husband Gershom Spruijt זיכרונו לברכה‎ chanted Torah beautifully for what would be the last time. Thank you Judith Magazine & Rachel Neve Midbar for giving it a home. This is a stealth tribute to him & his resonant voice-now so quiet.
