Autonomy gives the best chance for high performance. The problem some leaders have with giving their team autonomy is:

1. It’s not measurable
2. It’s risky
3. It’s more work to lead by persuasion and example than by control
4. It’s hard to take credit for work your people did with their autonomy.

Responding for the govt, Baroness Merron basically agrees with all of the points raised by Lords in the debate but offers no real signal of progress towards delivering the services @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social said would be one of his first acts in govt.
