Do you have a good way to research the candidates? I haven't searched too hard but have not previously found any information to know why to prefer one candidate for a judgeship over another.

I feel like I'm being trolled, either by Kessler, Hobbes, or both, but in any case the end result is that we are all more aware of the context for Harris's attacks than if Kessler hadn't written the fact-checker.

I don't understand the complaint here? Kessler is amplifying and refining Harris's (valid) attacks. No one is reading these and concluding that Harris is a liar -- they are just learning more about the facts behind her claims, with regard to important topics. Isn't that a good public service?
