One problem I had was to follow too many people in different starter packs, which created lots of noise. As a solution, I unfollowed them all using a script that I found on Reddit and then chose the starter packs carefully (in my case, Mech Interp, Continual Learning, and Formal Languages and NN).

“impact: a positive change in the world.” It didn’t matter about the number of papers or co-authorship with senior faculty, as long as the research had an impact. Papers and funding were the indirect consequences of impact not the actual target.
