So, for connecting the drives to the PC I am using a PCI-E SATA adapter with 5 ports which fits in the M.2 slot (in picture).
For powering the drives, you can look up “PicoPSU” which is the smallest available ATX PSU.

I plan to publish a blog post soon on my site detailing the whole rack setup.

I am using a PicoPSU (in a custom 3d printed rack mount)

I can hear the drives way way less than when they were just thrown in my rack, I guess the neoprene strip I attached under the stack feets also helps.

It might stay, but as it is not guaranteed sadly, I think I will soon migrate towards a .dev or .com TLD

Cool! For me it’s only 40% ortholinears at the moment, still considering splits :)

With Unraid a file can be found fully on a single disk, so if you watch a movie the other disks can sleep. I run it on a Dell Optiplex MFF 7080 and the idle power consumption of the whole rack is ~20W.

Had to do some modifications to fit extra drives though: bsky.app/profile/qwak...
the Dell Optiplex has an M.2 to 5x SATA adapter, so I had to cut open the case for the connectors, I plan to finish a blog post soon detailing the build in more detail

I recently ordered a 15$ soldering hot plate for this kind of stuff, still have to receive it though
