Install brew and distrobox via rpm-ostree. Then brew install happily without rebooting. Also, turns out debugging with Vscode is impossible for front end apps running in containers, breakpoints fail. Distrobox fixes this - install Chrome, Vscode and project all inside the one container and it works.
