“A delightful blend of scientific rigor and domestic chaos.”
I agree. Also, your neighbor needs an intervention - raisins and cream cheese? Avocados, sure. But raisins?!?!

Untrue.

Millions of Californians (10.47 million to be exact) people participated in the Great ShakeOut Drill and practiced doing exactly that.

EVERYONE in CA should drop, cover, and hold on during earthquakes to prevent injury.

If you feel earthquake, shaking, or receive an earthquake alert, drop down to the ground take cover underneath the sturdy object like a table and hold on until all the shaking has stopped. Don’t be scared, be prepared.

There is a very, very small chance (~2%) that this could be a foreshock to an earthquake >M4.1. So highly unlikely, but low probability is not no probability.

Regardless, this is another reminder that California is earthquake country, and it’s important to be prepared .

There have been a couple of small aftershocks so far. Aftershocks are normal and expected.

The USGS Aftershock foreshock gives a 21% chance of aftershocks of M3+, which could potentially be felt nearby.

Downgraded to a M4.1.

Remember, there’s a trade-off between speed and accuracy, so as more information becomes available things like the earthquake magnitude will be refined.

Oh no! I hope you feel better soon. Keep fighting the good fight.

Have those calls been increasing? Or been stable but persistent? Might be interesting, if possible, to ask people about the origin of that fear/belief.
November 16, 2025 at 3:08 PM
Hmmmm….do you know if there a specific account spreading that information? Or is this a slightly different flavor of the common “lots of small earthquakes can stop bigger ones from happening” myth?

Whew! Thanks.
