Merry Christmas to everyone who made it through another challenging term. You did well.

To those who are resting: enjoy it without guilt.

To those who are working: you're allowed to stop.

However you're spending today, I hope you find moments of peace.

To everyone who's been working right up until today:

You made it. Well done.

Whatever you didn't finish can wait.

For the next few days, you don't have to be productive. You don't have to prove anything. You're allowed to just... be.

Wishing you a peaceful Christmas.

Imposter syndrome thrives in a culture where the work is never finished and the standards are always rising.

Of course you feel inadequate, that's how the system functions.

If you are ready to separate your worth from ever changing academic standards, then book a call https://www.rfr.bz/b5d15fa

Katie: "After the webinar, I feel inspired to reflect on how LinkedIn might be useful to share a narrative of what I want to be known for."

Remember your first December as an academic: maybe you imagined a festive wind down.

Instead: paper deadlines, ethics paperwork, panicking students, urgent emails.

Everyone needs everything before the break.

There is no permission to stop.

You have to claim it yourself.

The gap between what brought you into academia (curiosity, knowledge, teaching) and what keeps you awake at night (metrics, admin, emails) grows wider every year.

Next year could be different - DM to discuss.

This ladder. This is academia.

You didn't choose to get on it. You just kept taking the next logical step. PhD. Postdoc. Lecturer. Senior lecturer. . .

But there may come a point when ask how to keep climbing without breaking, and whether you actually want what is at the top. DM to discuss

I remember looking at the people above me and realising they had lost some of the things that brought them into academia.

Have you considered where your career ladder is taking you?

It is a hard truth is that academia runs on our sacrifice. Our weekends. Our health. Our families. They don’t measure these things, it’s up to you. When did you last run a report on your own wellbeing? Book a call to get started https://www.rfr.bz/bbafb5e

"I haven't taken a weekend off in months."

We tell ourselves next week, month, semester will be different. But what we don't say out loud is that this job isn't designed for breathing space.

Can you remember the last time you felt rested?

Your research matters. Your teaching matters. You matter. None of these improve when you're running on empty.
