European golf fans I think like bringing the best parts of British fandom to golf. Tifos, chants, humour, sometimes poking fun but not personal.

10k fans waving a hat at Cantlay is exactly that. It’s definitely poking fun but also playful. And I bet many applauded after that 3 hole burst in Rome

But they don’t tend to bring the racism or hyper aggression. And wouldn’t chant “Fuck you rory” to a player.

Football chants are often timed an amazing thing. Funny, sometimes self deprecating and set to a familiar melody. Hence the “in your head, Rory” set to “zombie” by Cranberries.

But you did reference bad European football fans such as racist Italian fans. I’m from the uk and we have those as well.

The problem with the comparison is that we aren’t talking about football. We are talking about golf.

To be clear, I want a much closer relationship with the EU but I’m not sure most people wake up caring how much we trade and who with.
We should be making the case that a closer relationship will make people feel better off.

Are there any polls asking people if a closer relationship with the EU would have a positive impact on things those people truly value like cost of living?

I found the origin story pod about it v interesting. It just strikes me that it might still sound too academic. Plus as you say it’s a concept with no clear ideology which means it can be used too freely.
I think describing the actions instead of using the word would be more relatable

Hey Dorian- do you think political commentators using the word fascism can sound both too intellectual and hysterical (because people think it’s a term reserved for hitler)?
it’s kinda like calling a flower by its Latin name.
People need to find more common language to describe these actions.
