Volcanologist and co-chief on IODP Expedition 398 to deep-drill at Christiana- Santorini-Kolumbo.
The Kos Plateau Tuff eruption of the Kos Volcano 161,000 years ago poured pyroclastic flows into the Aegean Sea. IODP #exp398 found the submarine products of the eruption 200 to 300 m thick, 140 km away from source NE of Santorini.

IODP Expedition 398 'Hellenic Arc Volcanic Field' measured the sub-seafloor thermal gradient NE of Santorini. Michael Manga and colleagues explain why it was unexpectedly low.
