Back in the Game!

2 x T Rex and 1 x Ancient Red Dragon.

That's another 10 inches, taking me to 28 inches this year.

End of Feb target is 59 inches, so 47% there.

I've got 10 bugbears itching to get them some paint on, and a cyclops all undercoated and dry brushed ready to go.

I haven't posted a picture of my figure painting in a while, mainly because I've struggled for time and motivation to do "fun stuff".

But I scrapped together some time in bits, and got the below painted so far this year.

So, on the "1 inch a day" target, here goes so far.

Pictures from today's #D&D game.

Last game of the year, players got them selves in a sticky heavily out numbered situation, but sneakily found a way arround without fighting at all!

Good job too, or I fear it was TPK time!

This months painting, Titan Lutheria, Beholder, 5 coppers, 5 Ne'er do wells a random harpy and a row boat.

This takes me to within 2 inches of my target of 365 inches of painted figures this year.

So, having had a think, my figures to round out the year will be Rasputin and Hellboy from Mantic.

And done.

Final stages are matt varnish, gloss on metals and glue down to acrylic bases (I like to see qhats under my models) what took the most time was sanding the edges of the disks and removing the protective film.

Time 45 minutes.

So total time 345 minutes or 23 minutes per model average.

Painting stage 2, all the colours.
Thus is the fun part, I like variety, so I tend to go ham, this is also where I catch the mistakes and tidy up. Pick a model, pick an area and colour and keep going till all are done.

Time roughly 60 minutes in 20 minute chunks.

Way more detailed paint job then the one I painted recently!

For anyone interested, my painting cupboard.

In the corner of my study I have this cupboard, I can close the doors and its unobtrusive, or open it up and be flinging paint in 30 seconds.

This lets me paint in 20 minute bursts, when ever I have 20 minutes free, and those bursts add up to alot.

Next stage painting.

I like to start with the paints that are on all the figures, metal, skin, leather, wood and ground.

So using speed paints, I pick a colour and paint all models with that colour and let dry between paints.

Total time excluding drying 75 minutes split over 5 chunks.

But, to "encourage" me along, and to record my process, I've got a bunch of halflings I'm working through, recording with pictures and the time involved for the whole thing, so...

Stage 1 Sprues - 0 mins
Stage 2 Assembled - 90 mins
Stage 3 Undercoated - 15 mins
Stage 4 white dry brushed - 20 mins

I've challenged myself this year to paint my "Pile of Opportunity" (or at least get it down a little) by painting 1" of figure base complete per day.

As of end of August I was upto 314" of a 273" target, so ahead, but this month has been snowed with the day job.
