No, this not about facing the dragon, but defending it. Imagine a battlefield and the opposing force managed to injury and down a dragon fighting on your side. Now it is time to step up and protect that dragon ally!

The trap is not really physical, but social. It is the captivity bargain in which the characters let themselves willingly be arrested. This is no long term solution, but for an encounter it might be a solution to protect innocent bystanders.

With death setting people free, removing their obligations their had in life, The Death Knight is can be truly a figure of change, not longer required to uphold the status quo!

Yes, I know, there is no spell option in the quest column. The spell lets the target appear as if the it into the social milieu. This includes that people will assume they are part of their culture and even hear their own accent when the target speaks.

NPC? Encounter? Something else? Today I make a case for shapeshifting not being a symptom of deceitfulness as it so often is used in myth and fantasy. Instead it might be a good idea to look at it as a positive trait of adaptation and willingness to grow.

It might look like a tattoo, but it is a parasite in reality. If the host dies it can move one to the next person, who will be then controlled by the monster. This means it can be a great occurring villain who can only identified on their telltale tattoo.

Well, it could also be a quest reward. The idea that instead of painting mutants as degenerated beings, it is a blessing, that gets awarded to the player characters by some benevolent entity and changes there biological heritage.

An ancient scroll is discovered, but it depicts a deity very differently from how people understand it. Is that just some heretic text or is there some truth to it?

Instead of preventing a ritual like so often part of an adventure, how about doing one? The mother goddess of the world is dying, and tp replace her someone else has to take up the mantle and become come the goddess of nature. Up for the task?

A pirate vessel commandeered by a quantum ogre is sailing between the dimensions, always knowing all the routes that potential victims might take. Hence meeting them is not as random as other encounters might have been.

To capture the magical thinking of premodernity in our games, maybe have the silly notion of people making sacrifices to appease the deities. Pulp stories often had that, but why do we see that so rarely in the TTRPG hobby?

The Tarrasque is not a new monster, and it serves here are a stand-in for pretty much any Kaiju sized creature. The battle is not against it, but on it. Destruction is futile, but being able to at least direct the path of destruction is worth a try.

"Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi; you are my only hope."
(I know, I am cheating today, but I had to!)

Not sure as what on the roll table this would classify (monster? Mechanic? Rumour?), but the idea is basically a cognitohazard form the SCP. The curse is a memetic contagion that corrupts a memory, and by telling an anecdote about the memory others get affected.

The dream of immortality came true, even though in a perverted way. based on swarms of nano-droids which emulate the brain activities the person originally had. Thus giving the impression the person is still around even though it is just an AI that inhabits the body now.

The treasure of an ancient dungeon is a magical hairbrush. It only works if one is brushing the hair of another person. The one receiving the brushing regains some hit points or has their stress reduced. A person can receive this benefit only once per day.

The modern Frankenstein idea is no longer about collecting body parts, but instead sampling DNA and composing those to create the apex specimen. Sure, that is not how science works, but it could still contain a few interesting TTRPG adventures.

Any game that tracks insanity or otherwise condition which affect the cognitive functions could be used as the trigger that the character has a psychic awakening, manifesting a wild psionic talent.

First I thought doing an NPC, but friendly zombies are nothing new anymore. But I felt like breaking a perception again. Thus here a prim and proper garden encounter. With a zombie who trims the hedges, thus clearly not a zombie vs plants situation.

A magical key (even though it has not necessarily to look like a key) that allows the holder to open up pathways between dimensions. With the key the owner can take over their own counterpart in the world or remain independent.

We turn that trope on its head. This tie the invading monsters are not goblins or orcs, but humans. We are the monsters! Or at least our tendency to xenophobia. Which sadly gets projected onto other peoples, like orcs in many games. Stop the othering!

The harvesting steam-robots have not retuned firm the fields. Adventurers needed to investigate. 100 sterling silver coins per steam-robot returned and 1.000 sterling silver if the cause for the malfunction gets identified and dealt with.

People call all kinds of games heroic these days, but in my opinion heroic are only systems that have the possibility for the heroes dying. Best if that happens for a cause—a righteous hill to die on. They should be challenged on their principles!

B: "I think she went crazy..."
A: "That is an irrelevant side-effect, focus on the mutation!"
