One week until Thanksgiving. A repeat (my first) at PSL on how to deal with talking with family members you think are radically wrong.

Of course, you don't need another response to Charlie Kirk's assassination. This is a bit more than that. A tie in to my work on civil discourse. My newest at PSL:

Axios: Commerce Secr H. Lutnick says the gov wants a cut of revenue generated by patents universities developed w/fed funds. I’ve said this for years. Do it & stop the idiotic attacks on academia—including disruptions in promised funds (then scale back in orderly fashion w/out violating promises).

The bill Trump signed last week is extremely worrisome for alot of reasons, but I think I am most worried about the tremendous funding increase for ICE. So I wrote this:

It's been a while since I've posted. I'll likely do better going forward, but today's post is simple: we should be talking alot more about the nationalization of the steel industry, especially in a time of war.

“we must own our mistakes. If we are to refortify the liberal foundations of American higher education, we must proactively name the failures that have contributed to a permission structure that now accommodates illiberal and authoritarian reactionary forces.”

Social media speeds discourse. Academic publishing has sped along with it. In some cases, they’ve fused. (Eg, many academics advertise their pubs on social media.) The quality of both have changed. Does that explain the rise of academic activism?

Two great posts from Aaron Ross Powell. One on what we need to be doing given the current administration, the other (first comment) on not being an asshole. While you should stand up for yourself and justice, you should do so civilly.
