Another thing: the hard-coded bone axes make it really hard to import/export animation from/to other DCCs.... it's on my long list of things I want to improve.

But the team working on animation & rigging is small, and they also work on other things. So one thing at a time.

And no worries, I'm also telling my colleagues that nowadays it's pretty much the complaint I hear the most about Blender: that development should focus more on polishing what's there, rather than adding more new things.

In the end it's a balance, because plenty of people also want new things.

No idea about the quick favourites. At some point somebody built it and now it's there. I think Blender is better off with it than without, and yeah, I would love to see it improved. Like many other areas of Blender.

I do talk to animators, but I'm not on the render team.

What I know from the new modifier menu is that it opens up possibilities for geonodes-based modifiers. People have been asking for a way to make & share their own modifiers for a long time, and this is finally becoming a reality.
