Thanks @microbiologysociety.org for promoting our work! Umbribacter vaginalis is also associated with increased risk for HIV acquisition in women. Bacterial colonies resemble tiny micro droplets of water. One cannot measure growth using optical density. These tiny bacteria are very ghost-like!

The novel bacterium was isolated from vaginal fluid samples of people with bacterial vaginosis (BV), a common condition in which the vaginal microbiome becomes disturbed by an overgrowth of bacteria.
