There were a fair number of butterbutts at Busey yesterday morning (at least 4)!! 🥰 I also saw a bat that was sleeping right off the trail. Adorable.

I thought it would be cool to take a #microCT scan of romanesco broccoli that came in my meal kit this week, and I was not disappointed! What a stunningly beautiful vegetable 🤯 The scan was taken with our Rigaku HX130 (@rigakucorporation.bsky.social) here at Beckman (@beckmanillinois.bsky.social)

I wanted to see how well my microCT renderings would translate to physical media so I ordered a test canvas print of my flea scan. I think it turned out really well 😁

These are the other shinies I've gotten in this save file of Pokemon Silver, Paras is the only one to go over odds so far and the geodude was a random encounter 😊 on to sudowoodo next!

Finally caught my first shiny from the Johto bug catching contest: A paras! 🥰Paras was actually the first shiny I ever encountered as a kid in LeafGreen. This took a while - 19,816 encounters.

A #microCT scan of a female American dog tick (Dermacentor variabilis). Very pleased by how well this sample fixed and stained (fixed in ethanol, stained in 0.5% iodine) - turns out tick cuticle appears to be very porous! The high surface area to volume ratio also helped I'm sure.

MicroCT scan of a silkworm cocoon. I was very excited that the silk fibers are big enough to pick up on the scan, incredible! The cocoon wall seems to be much thinner than it feels to the touch.
