I forgot to talk about completion but entire games are based on this principle, like Pokémon
Also, it can be used as a vector for culture, like in assassin's creed or uncharted

Randomisation is a great part of video games. It changes tactic to strategy, making you think differently. ARPGs, rogue likes, even city builders are built around random events. It's your ability to adapt and overcome that is tested. And it's healthy to get challenged like that

The illusion of control is the core of game design. Making your player feel smart, skilled. Making it believe he found a hidden passage, a rare chest is what makes the game enjoyable.
Making a game enjoyable does not make it addictive.

Again, this is the concept of many healthy games
Rogue likes and RPGs reward your knowledge of the game and your ability to adapt and use the tools at your disposure. The more you play, the more you know how to play.

"a game is a series of meaningful choices" Sid Meiers
The very essence of the game is that you build up your copy.
Even Townscaper (listed as a healthy game) makes your saves meaningful
You don't want to stop until you made that awesome city

Those "dark pattern" are just called "game design" (except for the badge thing, which is called "steam needs retention too, and it's definitely a dark pattern)

How to prevent any Unity games from being selected for Game Pass
September 13, 2023 at 11:38 AM
I guess there will be some data sharing on the Unity Runtime Service code (the system that launches Unity games)
That service "apparently" cost money to support, and they are going to "put some research" into that system (that's why they "need" the money)

The 2 games I worked on got updated this week!
Make sure to test them, they're really good (totally objective take)
