Excellent paper and thoughtful commentary thread on why it is critical for gov inquiries to have a clear, mandatory process for declaring their interests in the subject of the inquiry.
Our analysis of a parliamentary inquiry into menopause (Australia) found the inquiry did not require disclosures of COIs in written submissions, or discuss how COIs were managed in the final report.

Only 1% of submissions provided a written COI statement.

Doctors are generally respected for their expertise in medical care. This puts them in a position to do even more damage when they spread medical misinformation. Medical boards have the authority to take action against these doctors, but they rarely do.
