No masks “just for this event” and even transparent masks are not accessible “concessions.” They are ableism. nondisableds continue luring us into their idea of a “fair” middle ground where our safety and inclusion is compromised to appease their comfort and convenience. They are not the same. A room full of unprotected faces protects no one.

“Masks are encouraged” isn’t fighting oppression, it’s pretty please?-ing it. “Masks required” is taking a fucking stand against eugenics and supporting those most vulnerable to this filthy air we’re forcing them to survive in. “Masks required” is fightin’ words and I’m all for it.

We need more hybrid spaces. Whether we want to create third spaces for our communities or build resistance and liberation movements, the exclusion and abandonment of the housebound, bedbound, even geographically distant or inaccessible is an inexcusable contradiction turning every “solidarity” statement into a fucking lie, evidence that we cannot even extend care, support, and collaboration toward our most vulnerable.

There's a lot of judging and yelling at folks to prepare and find your community before it's too late and hardly any "I am part of a community and welcome you," "I have *these* resources and am looking for *these other* resources if you'd like to practice mutualism (which, despite what social media shows, isn't just answering financial aid requests.)" We can't assume the reason for someone's disconnect. *Actual* hyper individualist culture is leaving the lost to fend for themselves.

That isn’t possible for many folks, especially for a Racialized Autistic in a yt allistic world.

Whether I need to protect myself as a chronically ill bodymindspirit or a Neurodivergent one, masking is mandatory.

No one should be expected to embody the archetype of their identities. Our identities are not monoliths and there is no singular way to experience, perceive, or understand them. Every bodymindspirit deserves freedom and liberation from the oppressions under which their identities are subjugated.

The discourse around preventing burnout is so overwhelmingly focused on actions for the individual to do, like setting boundaries, while rarely, if ever, how we can support others from developing burnout, whether as individuals or as communities. You are responsible for your own burnout. For all the community talk over the last year it still feels incredibly like the rhetoric of a hyper individualist culture.
