I’m trying to finish up 3 studies and launch a new one. Would love to have as many folks as possible come by 😊

I’m bringing a small army of undergrads for their first research trip & they are very excited!!

I’m nervous to be at a Smash event but I hope to see old friends.

Book: Songmaster by Orson Scott Card

I bought this from a used bookstore in high school since I liked Ender’s Game but never read. It’s the kind of book I like more as an adult since it’s about growth, legacy, change. The idea of song as a separate, more honest expression than speech was cool.

TV: Sirens (Netflix)

I really liked the exploration of sibling/family dynamics & trauma, it felt realistic & powerful how they were explained and tackled. The metaphor of wealth as a siren’s call was good for the first half but as the plot progressed it mattered less? Overall a solid, human drama.

Books: Apothecary Diaries (12 & 13)

Tore through this series last year since the anime was so good. Each book has its mysteries, danger, court social dynamics, jokes, romance. 12 was a great payoff from a larger arc of several books, 13 felt like pure setup but enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Comic/Book: Flork of Cows @florkofcows.bsky.social

I completely forgot I ordered this so when it showed up on my doorstep after a very trying few weeks (let’s be honest, an awful few months) it felt perfect. The absurd, dark, wholesome hilarity gave me a lift. A little treat for my spirit.

Game: The Longing (mobile, Steam, etc)

A curious and (in a positive way) lonely, long experience. I got attached to my little shade and ended up using a guide to peep the endings bc I was worried she wouldn’t end up well. Glad I did. Game brought me small joys, rewarding patience.

I’m not sure the bar chart supports the claim you’re making about race. Bar chart shows 28% of gamers are non-white, so 72% are. Here is US population census data, White non-Hispanic ppl are 58% of the US pop. The last screenshot describes proportion, not absolute #. Do you have other sources maybe?

Theater: Purpose (Live)

This was a heavy, multilayered drama about a politically impactful Black family and their dysfunction. I laughed, I cried (trigger warning for depiction of suicide attempt), and felt cleansed. I’m def grateful to Steppenwolf for commissioning & debuting this work. Whew.

Theater: SIX: The Musical

Big fun! I know I’m late to the party but I get it now. Catchy pop-musical theater fusion with history folded in. Costumes? Amazing. Concept? Feminist AF in the best way. It didn’t really inspire emotion in me but it was a fun 90 minutes!

I know I’m a weirdo for loving Peeps - yes the sugared marshmallows
- but has anyone else noticed they’re having A Moment™️this year? High quality jewelry, a luxury purse from Betsy Johnson, and I found a 4’ tall plush grocery shopping today. What is going on?? (I am mildly pleased but mystified)

At a conference in NYC with a hotel in the theater district. Bought a last-minute single ticket in the orchestra section to my first Broadway musical :) Gotta try to find joy where I can.

Theater: The Lion King

Late post but didn’t want to forget it. The show was so legit! I can’t believe the creativity of the costumes & movement to recreate the movie. Some parts were a hard watch after having a parent die myself. But a beautiful display of skill & art. Hyenas got all my laughs.

TV: Still Alice (Netflix)

Just talked to my psych 101 class about memory and Alzheimer’s, thinking I might assign this for extra credit because it does such a good job of showing how our memories shape us, and what it means to lose them. Sad, accurate, and again, very sad.

TV: The Witcher Sirens of the Deep (Netflix)

Some cool animation sequences and world building make it a solid watch and a good companion to other Witcher shows.

Still, I’m looking forward more to the new game when we see Ciri’s perspective highlighted. Geralt doesn’t change, he just… is.

Game: Fields of Mistria (Steam)

A new Top 5 of farming games… once it’s done. The gameplay loop is engrossing, dialogue/characters fantastic. Starting a new file was like playing Harvest Moon DS or Stardew for the first time. The early access version out now has about 40 hours of gameplay. 10/10

TV: The Six Triple Eight (Netflix)

Admittedly some of the acting was mid 😩 but otherwise this was a cool story of a unique historical moment and I learned a lot watching it

TV: The Law According to Lidia Pöet S2 (Netflix)

Historical investigation/drama and S2 is as good as the first. Enjoyed the discussions on women’s rights and the costumes were beautiful. More gory than I’d like. Will watch the upcoming S3

I was invited to give a keynote at my university’s Psi Chi induction ceremony so I dug up a photo of my first poster presentation - MPA 2013 with Psi Chi’s support - and the pin I got at graduation.

I was just a baby!!

Time flies. I think young me would be excited to see how far I’ve come.
