8. The Panama Canal treaty, signed in 1977, does not say that the United Stated had to receive any special treatment as users of the canal, except for expedite transit of their military battleships. 🧵5/6

7. In 2016 Panama expanded the canal to increase its capacity. That construction was exclusively Panama’s responsability and the US had nothing to do with it.
