Still trying to retire!
The “GST deal” means no state drops below 75% of GST revenue.
Also, when the GST was being “sold” to us, it was claimed that a benefit would be that states would be able to reduce other taxes. Today Clare O’Neill bemoans state based stamp duties.
That reduction hasn’t happened.

Same era and place but of a man on his own. Ellemara.

Back in the 1980s I was doing a history unit “by correspondence” through a Uni. I wrote an essay on one of the iconic photos from the 1890s involving indigenous men and chains.
I included some indigenous stories which had been told to me.
The essay was failed because it included “oral histories”.

My family has had “experience” with the Hesperian Press publisher mentioned in the article.

Some factual errors here eg. Filomena Piffaretti, Mayor of City of Bayswater is a female mayor. The issues go beyond the reserve (and I do not live in that council area).

If this Government had the fortitude it would tax any expansion at just enough for Santos to question the viability of proceeding. If it did proceed it would be a financial windfall for the Government and if it didn’t proceed it would be financially no worse off (but the environment would be ).

When I was a kid a homeless man lived in a car body in the bush near where I lived.
He was a Gallipoli vet.
Each ANZAC day the RSL would get him, dress him in a pin striped suit and put him in front of the parade.
After each parade they would take the suit off him and send him back to his car body.

I think that the bastardisation of the two party system has ruined the original principle of the “House of Review”.
I have spent most of my life in rural and regional areas and have significant empathy for the disenfranchised people living and working in Rural Australia.

Would you then argue that the Federal Senate should be proportional representation? My interpretation is that the State Legislative Council is based on the same principle.

Thing is, she is not even the WA Opposition Leader and I challenge you to name the present Opposition Leader without looking it up. And it is the same with all media in WA.

I remember drinking in a country pub in WA in this era. On a busy Friday night you would leave your pile of cash on the bar. The bartender knew whose shout it was and which pile of cash to take it from. The only easy thing was that there was only one beer on tap.

My ancestry, which is Lincolnshire based, is littered with Jewish names which were "Anglicised". Whether this was done on purpose by the family or "just done" by the priest at baptism is up for debate.

Our colonialist society has been doing this sort of thing since 1788 and laughing about people with names like “Mosquito”.

Shinola is actually a “good news” story. It is a company that was started to employ workers laid off with the closure of Detroit car manufacturing. They started manufacturing bicycles then progressed to fine watches and leather goods.
