I mean, this is still a long way away from the abolition of ‘AI’ that I’m after; it’s good that the SoA is working on this, but I’m resisting the propaganda that this is inevitable and that the ground we’re fighting is only ‘how much do we get’

I think that it’s good faith, but I think the current systems, practices, and driving forces of “AI” are so hideous that I continue to conscientiously object. I hate the language of “opportunities”; I don’t see opportunity here, I see fear of lack of compensation.

“Higher education experts at PA Consulting” which might explain the absolute business jargon word salad. Engage, portfolio rationalization, engage, downsize, service provision, engage. Imagine showing this to anyone working at a university 50 years ago. Hell, even 20.

No, I don’t think so, unless a single play is getting so much discussion that breaking it down becomes necessary. We did character entries for my two volumes in the Critical Reader series because the entire book was about a single play.

… the pursuit of knowledge and discovery and joy for their own sake is the *point*, rather than just the accrual of capital. I think there’s time and space for us to do the things that others aren’t doing, and I don’t think that’s a dilution of the bigger missions.
