Feb 26, 2025-Day 26. Chicago, IL has one of the best skylines is where I trained as a Pediatric Dentist at UIC. It was a Black Man of Haitian (African-French decent) who has been noted as the city’s founder. Jean Baptiste Point du Sable (before 1750-1818). He was a trader. #BHM ❤️🖤💚✊🏽💪🏽🇺🇸

Feb 25, 2025-Day 25. Nashville, TN-Meharry Medical College, my Alma Mater, opened in 1867 for the purpose of training former enslaved persons. In 1886, the School of Dentistry was opened. 1 of 2 HBCU’s to have a dental school. 40% of all Black Dentists are Meharry graduates! #BHM ❤️🖤💚✊🏽💪🏽🇺🇸🦷👩🏽‍⚕️👨🏽‍⚕️

Feb, 24, 2025-Day 2 The HAYTI District, was started in Durham, NC after the end of the Civil War. It was an independent Black Community that at one point boasted in having over 200 businesses owned/operated by African Americans. HWY construction split the community in 1958. #BHM ❤️🖤💚✊🏽💪🏽🇺🇸

Feb 22, 2025-Day 22. Benjamin Banneker (1731-1806) was the 1st AA to be appointed by a U.S. President. He was a part of a 6-member team who surveyed the land for Washington D.C., the place of my birth. D.C.’s 1st “Home-rule” elected Mayor was Walter E. Washington in 1974. #BHM ❤️🖤💚✊🏽💪🏽🇺🇸

Feb 21,2025-Day 21. A little BHM fact from my employer, VCU. Grace E. Harris (1933-2018) was one of the 1st African American faculty members hired in 1967. She was also the first AA woman to serve as the chief academic officer at a 4-yr public university in Virginia! ❤️🖤💚✊🏽#BHM

Feb 19, 2025-Day 19. In honor of Black History firsts in the Arts, today I highlight the 1st African American Actor to win a Tony Award Juanita Hall (1901-1968). Hall won in 1950 Best Supporting Actress for her role as Bloody Mary in the Broadway Musical “South Pacific”. #BHM ❤️🖤💚✊🏽💪🏽🇺🇸🎭🎤🎥

Feb 18, 2025-Day 18. “The Black Cabinet”/ “Federal Council of Negro Affairs” (1933-1945) was an informal advisory group to FDR. They lobbied to make sure New Deal programs were beneficial to African Americans. Their work laid the foundations for the Civil Rights Movement. #BHM ❤️🖤💚✊🏽💪🏽🇺🇸

Feb 17, 2025-Day 17 Hon. William Henry Hastie Jr. was the 1ST African American to become a U.S. Federal Judge in 1937 (FDR nominee). He also served as Dean of Howard University School of Law. Truman later nominated him to serve on U.S. Court of Appeals in 1949, another 1ST! #BHM ❤️💚🖤✊🏽🇺🇸⚖️

Feb 16, 2025-Day 16. The 1st Black Woman to become a U.S. Federal Judge was the Honorable Constance Baker Motley in 1966. She was also the 1st Black woman to argue before SCOTUS, and was a part of the team that won Brown vs. Board of Education in 1954. #BHM ❤️🖤💚🩷💚💚🤍🔗✊🏽🇺🇸⚖️

Feb 15, 2025-Day 15 General (Ret.) Lloyd James Austin III was the 28th Secretary of the DOD & 1st African American to do so! He served as Sec’y of Defense from 2021-2025 during the Biden-Harris administration. Prior to that he had a very distinguished career in the Army. #BHM ❤️🖤💚✊🏽💪🏽🇺🇸

Feb 14, 2025-Day 14 Patricia R. Harris (1924-1985) was the first Black woman to serve as Sec’y of HUD (‘77-‘79). Then she became the first Black HHS Sec’y (‘69-‘81), all under Jimmy Carter. She was also the 1st Black U.S. Ambassador, appointed by Lyndon Johnson (‘65-‘67). #BHM ✊🏽❤️🖤💚✊🏽💪🏽🇺🇸

Feb. 13, 2025-Day 13-When US Cabinet members were highly qualified, Dr. Robert C. Weaver, economist, became the 1st African American to serve in the U.S. Cabinet. He was nominated by Lyndon Johnson in 1966 to serve as Secretary of HUD. The HUD HQ was named after him in 2000. #BHM ❤️🖤💚✊🏽💪🏽🇺🇸

Feb 12,2025-Day 12. 160 yrs ago today Henry Highland Garnet became the 1st African American to speak in the U.S. Capitol. He delivered a sermon commemorating the passage of the 13th Amendment. He was born enslaved in 1815, escaped w/family in 1824, later becoming a Minister. #BHM ✊🏽❤️🖤💚🇺🇸🏛️

Feb 11, 2025-Day 11 Kendrick Lamar was the 1st Rapper/Musician to win a Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2018! He received the award on 4/16/2018 for his album DAMN which did not fall into the normal winning genres of Jazz & Classical music! Put some respect on his name! #BHM ❤️🖤💚✊🏽

Feb 9, 2025-Day 9 SB Sunday is here! 🏈🏆 Our highlight today is Doug Williams. Williams was the 1st Black QB to start in and win a Super Bowl in 1988 w/his Washington team! (My team 😉) This proud HBCU alum (GSU) was the 1st Black QB to be drafted in the 1st round in 1978. #BHM

Feb 4, 2025 Day 4-Dr. Mae C. Jemison is an Engineer, Physician and former NASA Astronaut who was the first Black woman to go to space!!! She was a part of the Space Shuttle Endeavor team in 1992. I am also proud to call her my AKA Soror 🩷💚!!! #BHM ❤️🖤💚✊🏽🇺🇸🚀
