This is just an account for me to share my experiences growing vegetables in my backyard gardens located in the hot, dry climate of Sacramento, CA.

I’ll also be plugging my YouTube channel now and then.

Behold the power of shade cloth!

Saturday it was almost 100 degrees out, the sun was giving a fusion powered middle finger to the region and not a bit of wilt on my squash.

These drama queens wilt when it’s 75 and sunny. #veggiegardening #shadecloth #vegetablegardening

In retrospect, a string trellis setup for my indeterminate tomatoes wasn’t the best idea here in the notoriously windy Sacramento Valley. They’re tossed around pretty bad every time the weather shifts. #veggiegardening #tomatoes #vegetablegardening

Have a squash plant with an abundance of female flowers but no male flowers? You can pollinate with male flowers from plants of any variety of the same species. I’ve been pollinating these acorn squash plants (cucurbita Pepo) with flowers from zucchini plants (also cucurbita pepo). #veggiegardening

These Golden Nugget winter squash (cucurbita Maxima) are coming along nicely. These are one of my favorite bush habit winter squash. The plants will each produce several bright orange baseball to softball sized fruits. Very sweet flesh, close to sweet potato.

I made the incorrect assumption that these Thelma Sanders Sweet Potato acorn squash would have s compact growth habit like other acorn squash, but they started getting out of hand.

Had to build a makeshift squash corral. #veggiegardening #vegetablegardening #wintersquash #diy

My first ever Canestrino di Lucca and Super Sioux sauce tomatoes are forming. These are both experimental varieties for me. Fingers crossed. #veggiegardening #Tomatoes
