Sadly, you can only swap storyline quests while in your orbiter. Depending on what you have active can actually change what deploys on maps, who you can interact with, and the mission itself. Like on some maps it would always be extermination, but would change to spy for the storyline.

Which quest was it? Is it the one to unlock Fortuna for open world?

I ask because once Fortuna is unlocked there are hub scattered across the open world that allow you to start new quests. One of which is right around the corner from the entrance/exit.

IIRC I have almost 1000 hours in game. There is an amazing story that has evolved over the years as well. I can probably answer quite a few questions if you have them.
