Not a referendum, as that would be divisive and do long term damage to Alberta’s economy (see Quebec).

We need this petition question to be put to a vote in the AB Legislature, and the Legislature to vote “Yes” in such numbers as to put the issue of separation to rest for the foreseeable future!

and then make sure that ALL communities experiencing redevelopment activity in their low density districts have new local area plans in place that include appropriate locational rules?

If not, then why not? /End

These WCLAP locational rules appear to already achieve the result that you & the other Councillors that campaigned on repealing blanket rezoning are looking for, so instead of repealing the R-CG zoning, wouldn’t it be better for Council to review these locational rules, tweak them as needed, /5

Section 2.2.1.6 of the WCLAP sets out rules that limit on which low density parcels 3+ unit developments should be approved. Those parcels include laned parcels near transit stations, on corners, on or just off Main streets, and adjacent to or across from schools or green spaces. /4

When you gave examples of appropriate areas/parcels, such as on laned parcels on corners & near transit stations, Main streets, parks, schools, etc., it struck me that what you were describing already exists in the communities governed by the new Westbrook Communities Local Area Plan (WCLAP). /3

I recently listened to both you and Councillor Chabot speak about this new motion to repeal blanket rezoning. Both of you agreed that 3+ unit (not counting suites) developments can be appropriate in certain areas or on certain parcels in low density districts, but not just anywhere. /2

Found the following on the interweb, but not an official source — “Alberta’s motto is «Fortis et Liber,» which is Latin for «Strong and Free.» This motto was officially adopted in 1907 and has since become a symbol of the province’s resilience, independence, and spirit of freedom.”
