The deal never involved the House voting, only the Senate. Since that vote is likely to fail anyway, it's kind of moot.

This is why I try not to be harsh on people for being too cynical. I see stuff like tonight and it's like "Yep, I get it".

If they caved after 24 hours:
- no SNAP lapse
- no shutdown RIFs
- No ACA subsidies
Cave at 40 days
- restart SNAP
- Reverse RIFs
- No ACA subsidies
How is this anything but an abject failure in both policy and messaging?

If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Looking back through history, the people that sided with better civil rights (for non-whites, and later for gay rights) have been viewed well, while all those who fought against it are remembered as flawed at best, if not outright vilified.
