6. Greenland continued: In 1941, during the WW2 Denmark made a deal with the US that the US should take over the defence over Greenland. When Denmark after the WW2 became part of NATO, the US got the right to have military bases in Greenland.

5. Greenland cont: In 1814 Norway went from being governed by Denmark to being governed by Sweden, but Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands remained under Denmark.

In 1931 Norwegians tried to occupy a part of Greenland, Denmark filed to the international court in Haag, and Norway lost.

4. Greenland cont: When Norway became governed by Denmark in 1536, the norse population in Greenland had disappeared.

The inuits continued to populate the island. A Norwegian priest travelled there in 1721 to mission, and that became the start of the colonisation of Greenland.

3. Greenland cont: During the 1200s inuits came there, they are the ancestors to the inuits who live there today.

In 1261 Greenland became part of Norway, and trade between Norway and Greenland started. In the mid 1300s, the plague came, and the trade stopped.

2. Greenland continued: They walked from Ellesmere Island (Canada), over the ocean.

When it was milder, people lived there, when it got colder, people disappeared.

In 982 Eirik Raude, Norwegian/ Icelandic adventurer, went there, and a norse population started living there.

So, since "someone" keeps saying "only because the Danish went to Greenland in a boat 500 years ago, doesn´t mean they own it", the Norwegian broadcast published the actual history, here´s a summary, in many parts bc of writing limits

4500 years ago the first people came to Greenland.
