I read it back in the 70’s, and enjoyed it so much I read all Newby’s other books as well. In his Hindu Kush book, his account of meeting Alfred Thesiger lead me to reading Thesiger also - worth hunting out if you are interested in the travel writing of eccentric Englishmen

Haven’t come across Coldwater but I have just read up on it so I’ll give it a try. Currently watching Sneaky Pete - near the end of S2. I have really enjoyed it!
