#MathArtMarch Day 7: How Many?
How many small white circles do you see? Clever counting should reveal a fun answer.

#MathArtMarch Day 5: Discovery
Julia is the Solution
This work pays homage to Julia Robinson (1919–1985). Her work was a critical component in discovering a proof (negatively) of Hilbert's tenth problem.

#MathArtMarch Day 3: Nature
Swirling Snowflakes
It wasn't until the early 1900s that scientists began to understand the nature of frozen water crystals that leads to their beautiful structure.

#MathArtMarch Day 30: Game
Take a number n, square the digits, add to get a new number, repeat. If the sequence ever reaches 1, the n is a happy number (green); otherwise (blue) it ends up in the 4, 16, 37, 58, 89, 145, 42, 20 cycle (red). It's a fun little arithmetic game to play.

#MathArtMarch Day 29: Unsolved
The Collatz sequence starting at 871 (in binary), visualized as an Arctic island. Let
f(n)=n/2, when n is even
f(n)=3n+1, when n is odd.
It remains unknown whether repeating this process will eventually lead to the value 1 (it takes 178 steps for 871).

#MathArtMarch Day 28: Quadrilateral
Spaceship Earth
An abstract model of the Earth made from 210 quadrilateral pieces: 60 green and 150 blue, which is about the same ratio of the Earth's surface covered by water.

#MathArtMarch Day 24: Equal
A Pride of Hearts
11x13=143 equal hearts in swirling spiral pattern in 11 colors. The association between the phrase "I love you" and 143 was popularized by Mister (Fred) Rogers, based the word lengths of the phrase, on his television show.

#MathArtMarch Day 20: Repetition
The binary representation of 2^n-1 is a repetition of n 1s. It is a Mersenne prime if 2^n-1 is prime (shown in white); n must also be prime. Other composites with prime lengths are light gray and composite lengths are dark gray.
