Thinking about Anne Boleyn today (d. 19 May 1536). What an unexpected life, and such a powerful legacy🥀👑(image from the National Portrait Gallery).

To mark #WorldSleepDay, here is a sumptuous four-poster bed in the Waldegrave room from c. 1485 at Hever Castle (plus a tiny chapel, originally hidden behind the panelling). The picture is from a lovely visit two years ago.

Cannot name a favourite, there are many intriguing books on the era. But currently reading this one. Hoping for new insights, and maybe some further variation to the traditional narrative.

On 28 January 1457, the birth of Henry Tudor. So many unlikely and improbable events in his life before he became King Henry VII. Hard to imagine how English Renaissace history had turned out had any of those moments gone differently.

Drop something yellow? Detail from a painting (by Helena Helkama; viewed at a charity ball last night) of a medieval tower, in its 1930s glory. This image glows of warmth and serenity, and makes me believe in the past – and in the future.
