Mathematician, educator and geek. He/him.
They did, but as I recall it was really focused on the fantasy rubber sword clubs rather than Vampire games and other flavours.

I think that's really the key. If you want to go into academia, a PhD is, if not indispensable, certainly something that makes it substantially easier to get a foot in the door. For anything else, not so much.

"Of far more use than a PhD, practically speaking" is a pretty low bar, TBH...

Absolutely true. We can't use the pyramid power any more without being accused of "cultural appropriation".

And this is why in a civilised nation you would pay $0 at the point of delivery and the collective bargaining would be from the fact the government is spending your taxes directly on your treatment.

If you get paid by the hour, you're working class. If you get a salary, you're middle class. If you live off inherited wealth, you're upper class.

Find the outtakes on YouTube, there's even more of his shenanigans that they had to cut for time.

Published proofs are really just convincing peer reviewers you could construct a proper formal proof given a couple more years and a page count a couple of orders of magnitude higher, but that's not an oral process.

So close. Instead of the state moving from paying insurance companies to paying individuals to pay insurance companies, move a step the other way and have the state pay healthcare providers directly. Like we do in civilised countries.

I'm a middle aged academic, and many people would describe me with phrases beginning "he's an utter..."

Does that count?

Completely black with a text box reading "No Signal"?

I'll bet the Christmas Markets helped too.

If we're going into this legal territory, we need to be more international and do a test case in the UK, which will begin with a decade of arguments and a minor civil war over exactly what that "round bread" is called.

I think you know enough people with PhDs to realise it doesn't mean that much!

Anyone needing to summon you needs only say something nice about sea otters. It's basically an Adam Rutherford bat signal.

And as a further counterexample, Zack Polanski seems to have massively increased the Green Party membership by just being vocally socialist, and he's white. We'll have to wait for some elections to see how it plays out, though...

Pretty sure? Why? Do you think they wouldn't have won with the same politics if they were white guys? I'm relatively sure the net effect of their ethnicity is likely neutral or a bit negative, given how many racists there are who see any non-white person in power as only explicable by "diversity".

Your error here is thinking that either Khan or Mamdani were elected due to their ethnicity or religion. Both stood on clear political platforms to benefit the majority of people in their cities and not pander to the wealthy, and the people liked these promises (and in Khan's case, his record).

Is it bad that I am not entirely sure this is an improvement?
November 3, 2025 at 10:51 PM
Come to think of it, a well constructed and thrown hot dog would basically be discarding sabot ammunition...
November 3, 2025 at 10:48 PM
I know I am opening a whole other debate, but what about a hot dog? Actually, a burrito in the traditional tight foil wrap 🌯 would have a really good range.
