Two weeks. Most mothers return to work within two weeks of giving birth. So we shouldn't be surprised that mental health is the leading underlying cause of death in mothers during the postpartum period at roughly 23%.

Check out my new article on LinkedIn. We need to re-educate and re-imagine maternal care in EMS. As a starting point, I am releasing a series of articles called Code Delivery. Enjoy, and let me know if there is a specific topic you would like me to address in future works.

My #medic friends, doing a gentle poll. Who here learned about vaginal tears and how to manage/rate them during birth? As MCDs grow, more out-of-hospital births are coming our way and I am slowly getting a temperature on how ready we are to meet that need as providers.

America doesn't care about the working mother. A few reasons why:
📌Only 1st world country with no mandatory PAID maternal leave
📌Mothers viewed as less competent and committed while for fathers it is the opposite.
📌No work flexibility even though women will still get the work done and some.

But have you heard of the motherhood penalty?

"Women with children earn less than women without children, even when they have similar education levels and occupations"

Just because someone has a child doesn't mean they do less work, are less dependable, or shouldn't be promoted.

#MaternalFact of the day. North Dakota has the highest instances of maternal care deserts with over 70% of counties (between 71% and 73.6% depending on the report) being classified as such.

As a medic and resuscitation advocate, initiatives like this make community response to cardiac arrests relevant. Remember, children as young as 8 can learn CPR. Songs like this help solidify knowledge and remove fear around compressions and AED use.
