Biologist - entomology, behaviour, neuroscience, cancer, Evo-devo... There's not a lot I haven't been involved in. Technician demonstrator and researcher looking to rebuild a science community from the ashes of the Twitter dumpster fire.
I'm considering running student projects in the future to try and get them to use bits of old kit that no one uses but won't let me donate/throw out/burn.
Either we get use out of equipment that's taking up space, or we have a case to get rid of it.

That said I was involved in 3 separate plans to close and relocate from a building that was never intended to last that long. Countless hours mopping up leaks and resetting months long experiments because the power failed left me with a fractious relationship with the building.

So you're telling me AI could actually replace those management meetings that go literally nowhere in spite of a lot of words being said?

I won't lie, no matter how many times I use it my heart is in my mouth when I press start

I did a talk for students on planning ethics and safety into experiments using Jurassic park scenes for examples. I asked the class of 17 how many had watched Jurassic Park.

2(!) put their hands up. I suddenly felt closer in age to the dinosaurs.

A rare moment where a "Florida man" story doesn't involve someone trying to snort cocaine off an alligator

Just a few years ago I was submitting to an online only journal (can't remember where, got rejected) who charged significantly more for colour pages

It's almost like they're deliberately developing systems that remove as much work from anyone they have to pay while creating more work for people they don't pay 🤔

It's an oldie but a woody

And because it entered my consciousness, I was *FORCED* to watch it again this evening

It's still younger than me and shouldn't look this old!

I laughed far too hard at this.
