Furthermore, survivor cats regained full health and maintained high titers of neutralizing antibodies 3-4 months post recovery. This suggests strong protection from reinfection. If you suspect bird flu, act quickly! 🦠🐈

These findings challenge the idea that all cats with H5N1 should be euthanized and instead supports the continued prioritization of neuraminidase inhibitors to treat H5N1 in mammals.

H5N1 is highly deadly to felines. A few months ago, my doctoral student Ian Bemis and I published a literature review demonstrating a case fatality rate of 90% for clade 2.3.4.4b (see Table 2).
