Thanks @uconncsch.bsky.social for the spotlight! Coming from an immigrant family, a central value for my work is moving from research on communities to research with communities. How can we support the dreams of immigrant communities & build their capacity for research that supports those dreams?

New: A 2006 study found undocumented immigrants contributed more to Texas than they cost the state. The state hasn’t updated the analysis since.

But a series of reports released by nonprofits and universities since then have reached similar conclusions.

A 2006 study found undocumented immigrants contribute more than they cost Texas. The state hasn’t updated it since.
A comptroller’s report found that deporting the estimated 1.4 million undocumented immigrants living in Texas in 2005 would have cost the state about $17.7 billion in gross domestic product.

One of the best feelings I get as a professor is at the end of the semester when students in class ask you what other courses you teach because they want to take another class with you - it always puts me on cloud nine!

See my work on how how a deportation policy resulted in more elderly Americans moving into nursing homes--because harder to find home care workers, etc. doi.org/10.1016/j.jh.... And also how greater availability of immigrant labor improves quality of care of nursing homes doi.org/10.3368/jhr.....
