If you are silent I'm the face of this, it will not save or spare you. Whether we count them or not trans people have always existed and will always exist.

CDC will no longer process transgender data
The agency's decision will likely affect a number of federal health surveillance systems that serve as critical resources for researchers.

Black and queer folks have been out here shouting from the rooftops for years about what was going to happen plain as day but some people just wanted to find out for themselves. 👀

What she said👇🏾
1/ Being an infectious disease expert in the U.S. today feels like standing in the eye of a storm. Science should be our shield, but instead, we’re under attack, our expertise disregarded, our funding slashed, and public health increasingly politicized. 🧵

If an institution is encouraging you to avoid words like "trans" be it on slides, talks, meetings, grants you name it as a way of being "cautious", remember they will do exactly same if the word is "Black", "Hispanic", "Indigenous", "Woman" etc.
Sit with that for a minute, then decide what u will do.

Today is the international day of the Woman and Girl in Science. To all badass women, scientists keep doing what you do: discovery, mentorship, and hard work. YOU belong in SCIENE.
To others, uplift the Women scientists you know, cite them, promote them, sponsor them, invite them - be an upstander.

Thank you, @contagionlive.bsky.social, for providing me with the forum to have this discussion. During these times, scientists cannot be silent about the fallout of ignoring health inequities. We must sustain a commitment to health equity.
AMR stems from natural microbial adaptation and the lack of new antimicrobials in development. Vulnerable populations worldwide, including within the US, are disproportionately affected, exacerbating the spread of resistance. @jaycdoesid.bsky.social discusses this significant topic.

🧵 When Medicine and Science Ignores Diversity, People Die.
1/ Ignoring diversity in medicine and science is deadly. From unethical experiments to life-threatening misdiagnoses, history is replete with examples of how neglecting race, gender, and identity costs lives. A thread of concrete examples.

I’ve been reflecting on one word that speaks to me each day. Today, my word of the day is COMMUNITY.
Community may be different for every person. Is it your work? Home? Church? Regardless of who or where they are, community is peace. Community is hope. Community is strength. Find your community. 👊🏽
